We Help Families

Brooks Strong helps families that are dealing with the financial hardships of cancer treatment by providing grants for kids ages 8 to 18 to continue in a sport or extracurricular activity. No child should have to miss out on the joy of participating in an activity they love because family resources are stretched thin by medical expenses. We also support much needed research into cures for pediatric cancers in hopes that someday soon no family will have to hear the words “your child has cancer.”

Our Inspiration

Brooks Tonn was a naturally gifted athlete who was inspired by competitive excellence. His toughest opponent was always himself. Brooks gave all he had to every sport he ever played, and as a result was transformed into a fierce competitor with unrelenting courage and discipline. That same can-do attitude was how Brooks approached his cancer diagnosis, and that is how he inspired us.

That’s why we started Brooks Strong Foundation in memory of the son we lost at age 10, and in gratitude to the community that helped us through it all. Brooks Strong provides grants to families in need so that their kids won’t miss the chance to follow their dreams through the activities they love.

Every kid should have the opportunity to be a kid. And financial strain should not be the reason any child affected by cancer should miss out on the opportunity to participate in activities that provide joy, build character, strengthen bodies and minds and provide an outlet and distraction from the reality of cancer treatment.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a resource for kids and families affected by cancer.  Our twofold approach:

  • We provide grants that help defray the cost of sports and community programs for children of families suffering the financial hardship associated with a cancer diagnosis so kids won’t have to miss some of the best parts of childhood.

  • We support cutting-edge pediatric cancer research.

Apply for a Grant

Brooks Strong will provide grants to families in need so their kids won’t have to miss some of the best parts of childhood. No child should have to miss the opportunity to develop a strong character through teamwork, competition, and problem-solving that comes with these activities.

Funding Innovative Research

Brooks Tonn lost his battle with cancer at age 10. His parents, Nora and Rob, established the Brooks Strong Foundation in part to fund innovative research in his honor. The Foundation welcomes donations of any amount.
